Deep Sky Lecture Notes

This is not a complete & polished manuscript, but rough notes from a lecture given in Vancouver, BC June 19, 1997.

It is our heritage as astrologers to explain the sky. As new bodies are identified astrologers seek to understand their significance. In the 18th century, Uranus; shaking the foundation of the basic seven planets. In the 19th century Neptune brought with it a penetrating understanding to previously overlooked levels of consciousness and social conscience.

In the 20th century Pluto brought with it a opening of the doors to the inner universe: the theory of relativity. On October 9, 1996 a new planet was ‘discovered’: 1996TL66. [early Taurus 3?]

Radio astronomy is a field dedicated to identifying and exploring that which can’t be seen. And, we all know that if we can’t see it, then it doesn’t exist.

Dane Rudhyar, one of our great twentieth century astrologers, recognized the need for a continuing evolution of thought. Paraphrasing Rudhyar:

Man projects upon the outer world what he potentially is, yet does not yet know he is, in order to discover and actualize his innate potential of being. Man collectively “creates” the universe he needs, and he does so whether he is an archaic shaman, a sufi or Christian mystic, or a modern scientist in his laboratory or observatory.” Each gradual change in human evolution is induced by the pioneering efforts of a few forward thinkers who question the validity of basic concepts of current dogmas & paradigms.

In the 16th, 17th, 18th centuries it was Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler & Newton. In this century Roetgen, Curie, Plank and especially Einstein and his successors. The paradigm currently dropping away is one of a “universe composed of solid globes of matter separated from each other by vast distances and held together by unchangeable laws of nature expressing an absolute causality principle. Through the understanding of the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics a new paradigm is forming. One of a universe of fields of energy (or force-fields) which only under certain conditions present to an observer the character of material solidity.

Let me reframe Rudhyar’s idea of an emerging galactic paradigm in every day experiences. Do you recognize yourself to be more than the sum of your biological parts? Ever woken up from a fantastic dream, only to be unsettled by the eerie truth that is was not merely “...just a dream...?!” Across this continent individuals are having experiences in the past (deja vu), in the future (premonitions), and experiences of alternative versions of the present.

Many of us have conscious awareness of things previously only experienced and recorded by our subconscious and supraconscious minds. One of the more enigmatic facets to this blossoming paradigm is multidimensionality.

Whether it is comfortable for us to accept or not, our perception of ourselves and our universe needs revising. “What we are witnessing today is the gradual emergence of a picture of the universe which presents us with a special problem, for it demands the acceptance of a new dimension of reality. The era of isolated, irreducible, and quasi-absolute individualities, as well as of totally distinct and unrelated physical-material objects is passing away. Everything not only connects with everything else; all there is interpenetrates everything.” Dane Rudhyar.

For anyone who is struggling to find the most effective way to integrate intuited information into their work routine, for anyone who has felt awkward and ineffective at raising and experiencing kundalini energy within oneself or with a partner, for anyone who strives to improve one’s life throug lucid dreaming, for anyone who has a conscious understanding of time shifts and other realities besides our own yet is puzzled as how to integrate these experiences into the regular experiences of one’s “ordinary” life - deep sky astrology is an innovative contemporary source of information and guidance.

Why bother... Uranus, Neptune & Pluto are working just fine for you, you say?

deeper understanding of our souls & spirits, beyond the scope represented by the outer planets. Through a better understanding of the more elusive nonphysical & subconscious parts of ourselves we can become more totally activated whole individuals. Those parts of us which live in the dream world, travel to the shamanic upper and lower realms, and participate in other contrary experiences can be yoked to help build more satisfying relationships, and flow through the work day incurring less stress...

Most of us are familiar with the general layout of our local neighborhood - our solar system. Let's take a quick spin through our galaxy, the Milky Way, and beyond to other galaxies in our universe.

Our solar system is a member of a spiral galaxy. The Milky Way can be viewed in the night sky as a river of stars because we view it from the side. One must view our galaxy from the top or bottom to see the familiar spiral pattern. Look at a dinner plate sitting on the table, it appears round. Yet, if you hold up this plate and view it from the side its shape appears thinly rectangular, just like the Milky Way.

Our Milky Way Galaxy is a member of a group of about 20 galaxies called the Local Group. Some groups include thousands of galaxies. Our Local Group is bounded at one end by ourselves, and at the distance end by the Andromeda galaxy. Edge to edge our cluster spans a mere four million light years.[1]

In the 1950's it became evident that our local group of galaxies was a member of a much larger system of galaxies. The center of this larger system is a cluster of several hundred galaxies, the Virgo cluster.[2] There is every reason to believe that we have more of our universe to discover. That as our technology advances we will be able to peer deeper into the icy reaches of space than what is currently possible.

When you look at the points of light in the sky tonight remind yourself of the variety of wonders you observe. Not all "stars" are created equal. Some points of light are stars not dissimilar to our Sun. Other points of light are galaxies, like Andromeda (M31), up of trillions of stars. Bright spots in the sky could even be superclusters like the ones in the constellation of Coma Berenices.

In the 16th century Nicolaus Copernicus proprosed that the Earth revolves around the Sun. Just as planets revolve around our Sun, so too does our Sun rotate around the center of the Milky Way. Beyond the boundaries of our galaxy there seem to be a central point of all galaxies. The galactic center and the universal center, called the supergalactic center by astronomers, are great places to visit if we are to gain a better understanding of deeply rooted and central aspects of our nature. The premise of universal astrology is that the interpretation of extrasolar system points will reveal facets of our nature about which we were previously unaware.

When we dissect the human body we and identify body parts: brain, blood vessels, bones. With the electron microscope we can discern minute details: cellular and subcellular structures. Electroencephalograms can provide information of brain functions. Yet where in our modern technology do we find our soul. Is our spirit locatable on an X-ray? Somewhere deep in the central core of our physical body and our brain-conscious mind are joined with our soul and spirit.

The galactic center (GC) is that place in the sky reflecting to us the image of our joined body-mind and soul-spirit. It is easy to understand the message of the galactic center by understanding its astrophysical properties. Rather than it being a thing, like the Sun at the center of our solar system, the galactic center is a region. The GC, aka Sagittarius A* (pronounced aye star), is a area of space crowded with stars. At the center itself is a radio wave source which is probably a black hole (A*). Two components stand out in the crowd at the center. First, is a cluster of blue stars[3] not unlike Rigel in the constellation of Orion. Second is a red supergiant[4] not unlike Antares in the constellation of Scorpius.

The GC gives us clues to our central makeup with its bipolar nature. Robust young blue stars together with sagely elderly red supergiants. Both ends of the age spectrum for stars. The spectrum of visible light stretches from red at the lower end of the electromagnetic spectrum, to blue at the upper end. Again the GC represents both extremes.

In ourselves we can easily associate red & blue light with aspects of ourselves by correlating them with particular chakras.[5] Your chakra energy system is like a brand new computer. It comes with many software programs you have yet to run. Awakening these center is like running these programs for the very first time. Suddenedly you, your body, can do things you never new it could do. Yet, all along, you had the potential for these new feats latent within you.

The root chakra at the base of the spine has long been associated with the color red and the crown chakra with violet.

“Thus it is said that in order to understand the sacred Hunab Ku, the One Giver of Movement and Measure, one must venerate the origin of the zero, the Milky Way, because it is there that the mold for the most ancient of things are located.” Hunab Ku gave us 7 powers, these powers, taken into our consciousness, help us become quetzalcoatl.

Those people who do not have anything of note in their chart at 26 sag are not left out of the game. These people simply don’t have a two way continuously operating intercom system. People without chart contacts to 26 sag simply have to use a little conscious Will and dial the Hunab Ku’s phone number directly. The great part about it is, from our solar system, it isn’t even a toll call - it is as easy as imagining the swirling masses of red & blue stars at our galaxy’s center. Look at the constellational atlas to the image of Sag. Where the arrow is pointing is the general vicinity of the galactic center. Use your mind to follow along the path of Sag’s arrow to the core of the galaxy.

Identifying the core self which the core of Hunab Ku represents means accepting the divinity within yourself. That is the part of you which can help the rest of you make sense of the nonsensical events sometimes present in our outer lives. Your core self can be that extra intuitive nudge which can make the difference in experiencing the total bliss possible in a loving relationship.

Individuals with natal contacts to Hunab Ku must consciously activate their core selves. Since this circuitry is alive already. A native with strong chart contacts to HK is alike a jet ski with no driver - it loses momentum and drifts around in circles. The aimlessness of an unconscious HK is a potentially deadly force. Illnesses related to the root and crown chakras are highly probable. Mental & emotional imbalances related to the root and crown chakras are often experienced.

To look at the night sky is to see on the mysteries of ourselves reflected in the cosmos. We see ourselves and our experiences reflected in the pictures and mythologies created in the constellations. Looking to the place in the celestial sphere where Sagittarius’ arrow is aimed. This is the place in the sky through which Hunab Ku shines. Personal shamanic messages brought to you at the metaphoric point of the arrow could be individualized guidance on how to utilize the force of the galactic core. Update your dream dictionary by associating the place an arrow is aimed with the symbol of beginnings, and the ‘cosmic essence which you are.’

The mayan explanation develops further to describe fibers which connect us through our solar plexus (our center of gut instincts, our shamanic center of power) through Mother Earth, then our Central Sun, on through the galactic core and through to the universal source of All-That-IS. This resonant pathway exists outside of time and space. Kuxan Suum represents a constant link to the source All-That-IS at all times in all realities and all dimensions. When this center is activated you truly become Creation. The past drops away as you are able to focus on the ever increasing spiral of life-Creation, on the most all encompassing level.

The shutdown of this center sometimes manifests as digestive problems and acts to close the resonant pathway. This results in a fixation on the past and a fear based way of life. Individuals with natal contact points to KS are likely to have weight problems due to poor digestion until the passageways connecting self and ultimate Creation Self are activated.
